I think this believe also tends to reduce writers' confidence. A writer won't have that writing spirit if he knows there's no one to read his story and even if he sent his work to a publisher, it may end up not seeing the light of the day! because many publishers are interested in books that would generate them instant cash - and that is text books. I am convinced Kenya has some of the best writers in the world the only thing lacking is direction, they don't know how to go about publishing their work or they have been frustrated by the saying, "There's no one in Kenya to read your work!" I've launched a service to enlighten writers on some of the best markets to direct their hard sweat and if interested, you can send the word, "Money" to 4445 to receive daily updates for different markets around the world as well as freelance writing jobs.

Hey Al Kags... always great to have you around and about our events.
We are always keen to work with everyone.. and we constantly make efforts to incorporate as many people as we can into our programmes and forge alliances- both private and public- for the betterment of a Kenyan and global literary culture.

Titus.. well thank you, but I do not understand your question: register for what?

[...] Are there writers in East Africa?: “For many years we were made to believe that East Africa was a literary desert. Taban lo Liyong said it and regional publishers vindicated him. And they kept him vindicated for many years but we all knew it was an excuse to invest solely on text books.” Share This [...]

Well done on the blog. You say something there that struck a cord with me. Literature is in high school dreary, hard and a must learn rather than a 'nice to learn'. how about having a kwani Club in high school and publishing short stories from high school. I know that ministry of education is looking for input into refining the system (8-4-4) and I hope that Kwani is getting in there and influencing that?
