Chimamanda Adichie was 25 years old when she wrote her debut novel, which isn’t in itself a reason to read it. But it does add to the wonder evoked by such a gripping narration of the many forms oppression can take. Purple Hibiscus follows a young woman’s liberation from her tyrannical father; it is a drama within a drama, placed in the Nigerian context of western colonial influence and a powerful Christianity bent on stamping out the last traces of native religion.

purple hibiscus is a very good novel in fact, many parents are bent on making sure that their children read this novel. i like the powerful selection of words. in a school where i once taught, every child read this novel with enthusiasm
Your text Purple Hibiscus is a master piece! I was an undergraguate at Obafemi Awolowo University when the novel was published.Interestingly, I was also part of the audience that celebrated the choice of your text for Commonwealth prize as organised by prof. kolawole of English department. At present, i want to write my Masters of Arts project in the departement of English, University of Ibadan and i have selected purple hibiscus for textual analysis.Please i will be glad if you can furnish me with any academic works,papers, M.A. projects\ theses and Ph.D theses that has been done on purple hibiscus.
