The Artists In Residency Program of the Africa Centre19/09/2016
The Artists In Residency program of the Africa Centre annually awards about 14 African artists the opportunity to live and work at one of our partner spaces across the world. We are currently accepting applications for the 2016-2017 season.
Here is some general information about the program.
Our general call is tailored to artists in the early/emerging stages of their careers. Successful applicants in this category will be awarded a four to eight-week residency at partnering residency spaces in Australia, Brazil, China, India, Spain and the USA. Each residency space has a different set of requirements. There are eight residencies on offer through this general call and applicants may apply via our online application form. Applicants to this program must live on the continent for at least six months a year.
There are an additional five- six residency opportunities available at the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center. This particular residency caters for mid to late career artists who are looking to invigorate their practice. Successful candidates can be accompanied by their spouse’s/life partner, all expenses paid and the dates of the residency (which range between 2-4 weeks long) being between February and November 2018. Interested artists may apply here. Applicants in this category needn't be based on the continent, though they must be African.
